Over the years, NGS and partnering host state agencies have jointly supported the State Advisor Program, enabling full-time NGS employees to serve as in-state geodetic survey advisors to state and local professionals and stakeholders. NGS has studied the current structure and effectiveness of the State Advisor Program and has assessed the options for expanding the reach of the program in support of modernizing of the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS). NGS will be restructuring the advisor program to improve its effectiveness. This will be accomplished through a phased shift from a "state" advisor approach to a "regional" advisor focus. NGS plans for the transition to occur primarily through attrition bythe end of FY16.
The Vermont Geodetic Advisor transitioned to the Northeast Regional Geodetic Advisor as of May 11, 2015, and is responsible for the states of ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, and NJ.
