Construction Update

PROJECT TYPE: Bridge Rehabilitation
 
LOCATION:  I-89 between Exit 16 and Exit 17 in the Town of Colchester, Chittenden County
 
TRAFFIC IMPACT: Travel impacts include reducing I-89 to one lane in the non-peak direction between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM. I-89 northbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday AM peak hours (7 AM to 2 PM) and I-89 southbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday PM peak hours (10 AM to 5 PM). In addition, Bay Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating two-way traffic, flaggers will be present to assist vehicles through the work zone. Expect delays.
 
DURATION: The work scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, will require lane closures on I-89 between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM.
 
PROJECT COMPLETION: November 2019
 
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES/NOTICES: Crews will continue setting the median barriers along I-89 to be utilized for crossover traffic patterns. Striping top soil wil begin this week. Construction of the southbound crossover and the new u-turn south of bridge 76 over Bay Road will continue. Repair work continues on the abutments and piers of bridge 76 over Bay Road. In addition, installation of temporary traffic control signage throughout the work zone and along the vehicular and cyclist detour routes will begin next week if time allows.   
 

Colchester I-89 Bridges Project

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is rehabilitating four bridges (Bridges 76 North and 76 South over Bay Road, and Bridges 77 North and 77 South over Mallett’s Creek) along Interstate 89 (I-89) in Colchester, Vermont. Construction will begin in April 2019 and be completed in October 2019. The project will include six weekend bridge closures, while maintaining two-way traffic on I-89.
