The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has begun a multi-year resurfacing project on VT Route 105 beginning just east of the VT-105/South Richford Road intersection in Richford, extending easterly along VT-105 to just east of its intersection with West Jay Road in Jay. The total project length is 7.381 miles.
In addition to extensive repaving, the project will include the replacement and maintenance of existing guardrail runs, some culvert replacements, ditching, and center line rumble strip (CLRS) installations where criteria have been met. Signs along the corridor will also be replaced and upgraded to meet current standards set in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Lastly, the project will also see ledge removal through machine scaling and blasting to prevent rock falls within the roadway clear zone and improve ditching through the area.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, October 18, 2021:
- Installation of pavement markings on abutting side roads throughout the project
- Complete the installation of shoulder aggregate throughout the project
- General clean up work throughout the project limits
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, October 11, 2021:
- No work due to the Indigenous People's Day holiday
- Installation of pavement markings to include lines, stop bars and symbols throughout the project
- Installation of shoulder aggregate throughout the project
- Complete installation of signs, delineators and mailbox relocation throughout
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, October 4, 2021:
- Weather permitting, paving side road and driveway tie-ins throughout the project
- Install centerline rumble strip
- Installation of line striping throughout the project
- Complete guardrail installation
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Saturday, September 26, 2021:
- Weather permitting, continue final paving (wearing course) from So. Richford Road working east.
- Continue shoulder work between VT 105A and West Jay Road.
- Guardrail and sign installation throughout the project limits.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Saturday, September 18, 2021:
- Weather permitting, begin final paving (wearing course) from So. Richford Road working east.
- Continue shoulder work between VT 105A and West Jay Road.
- Guardrail and sign installation throughout the project limits.
Traffic control will be present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic within the various work areas, expect minor delays.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, September 13, 2021:
- Continue shoulder work between VT 105A and West Jay Road.
- Complete guardrail replacement between So. Richford Road and VT 105A; Begin replacement between 105A working westerly towards West Jay Road.
- Weather permitting throughout the week, begin paving the final "wearing course" of pavement.
The intermediate course of paving is complete.
- No work due to the Labor Day holiday
Tuesday through Friday:
- Continue shoulder work with 4 crews working throughout the project.
- Continue guardrail replacement between So. Richford Road and VT 105A
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Saturday, August 28, 2021:
- Weather permitting, continue intermediate paving with 2-1/2" of hot mix asphalt working easterly towards the end of the project in Jay
Monday through Thursday, Friday until noon:
- Continue shoulder work throughout the project
- Continue guardrail replacement between So. Richford Road and VT 105A
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, August 23, 2021:
- Weather permitting, continue paving with 2-1/2" of hot mix asphalt from 105A working easterly towards the end of the project in Jay
- Continue shoulder work between So. Richford Road and George Godin Road
- Guardrail replacement between So. Richford Road and George Godin Road
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, August 16, 2021:
- Weather permitting, begin paving with 2-1/2" of hot mix asphalt. Will pave in a westerly direction between Route 105A and So. Richford Road. Once that is complete, paving will begin back at 105A working easterly towards the end of the project in Jay.
- Excavation crew will be working on the shoulders
- Begin installation of new guardrail in areas where the 2-1/2" asphalt pavement has been placed.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Saturday, August 7, 2021:
- Continue placement of a cold mix pavement proceeding easterly from the Stevens Mill Slide Road intersection proceeding easterly
- Begin paving with 2-1/2" of hot mix from the west end of the project in So. Richford and proceed easterly towards the intersection of Route 105A
Traffic control will be present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic within the work areas, expect delays.

- Continue placement of a cold mix pavement proceeding eastly from the intersection of VT Route 105.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, July 26, 2021:
- Completion of the reclamation at the Jay end of the project.
- Begin placement of a cold mix pavement beginning in Richford and proceeding east.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, July 19, 2021:
- Weather permitting, continue the final reclamation of the roadway proceeding easterly. This process adds a stabilizing agent to the subbase. This agent takes time to cure causing a maximum of 2 hour lane restriction after installation is complete.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Saturday, July 10, 2021:
- Due to this week's weather we were not able to begin the final reclamation. So, weather permitting, we will begin the final reclamation of the roadway starting at the South Richford Road intersection proceeding easterly. This process adds a stabilizing agent to the subbase. This agent takes time to cure causing a maximum of 2 hour lane restriction after installation is complete.
Traffic control will be present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic within the work areas.

PROJECT UPDATE:
- The removal of the top 4" of existing pavement will be completed tomorrow, May 21, 2021.
- Roadway reclamation work continues from Route 105A east towards West Jay Road.
- An excavation crew will cut and replace the areas of unsuitable subbase material found during reclamation from So. Richford Road working easterly to the Route 105A intersection.
PROJECT UPDATE:
- Removal of 4" of the existing pavement eastbound throughout the project is complete.
- Tomorrow, May 14, 2021 beginning at the South Richford Road intersection proceeding easterly to Stevens Mills Slide Road the reclamation process will begin. This machine mixes the remaining layer of asphalt with the existing subbase and places back as a gravel roadway.
- Roadway reclamation work continues. If unsuitable subbase material is found, an excavation crew will cut and repair the said area.
- Continue removal of 4" of the existing pavement beginning at the Jay town line proceeding westerly along VT 105 in preparation of the reclamation work.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, May 10, 2021:
- Existing guardrail set back work continues easterly along VT 105 to the Jay town line.
- Shoulder widening continues easterly along VT 105 to the Jay town line.
- Begin removal of 4" of the existing pavement in Richford moving easterly along VT 105. This work is in preparation of reclamation of the roadway. The removed asphalt will be recycled and reinstalled as cold material to use for a base during the repaving process.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, May 3, 2021:
- Existing guardrail set back work continues easterly along Route 105 to W. Jay Road.
- Shoulder widening begins in Richford and will continue easterly along Route 105 to W. Jay Road.
- Beginning at the intersection of VT Route 105A in Richford and proceeding east towards West Jay Road intersection in Jay, crews will set back the existing guardrail, as a temporary barrier along Route 105, to allow for enough width for the construction equipment to being reclamation work.
- Completion of shoulder widening within the guardrail areas

- Shoulder widening using crushed gravel sub-base between the So. Richford Road and Route 105A intersection in preparation for next years roadway realignment
- Completion of ledge removal followed by seeding, fertilizing, lime, and hay mulch the newly graded surface on top of the ledge
The anticipated work schedule for the week beginning August 31, 2020 is as follows:
- Removal of unsuitable shoulder material, replace with a crushed gravel sub-base within the So. Richford Road area
- Shaping banks and ditches within the So. Richford Road area
- Continue ledge removal pushing the ledge face back
The anticipated work schedule for the week beginning August 24, 2020 is as follows:
- Installation of 6" underdrain continues on Route 105 between Route 105A and Nickson Road
- Slope stabilization work continues between West Jay Road and Nickson Road
- Continue ledge removal pushing the ledge face back using an excavator with a hammer attachment

Below is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning August 17, 2020:
- Installation of 6" underdrain continues in Richford proceeding east
- Installation of 6" underdrain continues in the Richford/Jay town line area
- Slope stabilization work in the Richford/Jay town line area where the roadway alignment is being shifted
- Continue ledge removal in the Jay area to allow for a ditch
For the week beginning August 10, 2020:
- Installation of underdrain along the shoulders continues east of Nickson Road and at South Richford Road working easterly
- Tree clearing in the Jay area in preparation of ledge removal
Traffic control will be present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic within each work area.
For the week beginning August 3, 2020:
- Two separate crews working on installing underdrain along the shoulders throughout the project limits
Motorists can expect traffic control present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic within each construction work zone.
