Project Description:
The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) owns and maintains 3,100 centerline miles of paved public roads. VTrans has collected annual pavement condition data, such as smoothness, rutting, and cracking, for over 20 years. This condition data is stored in the Deighton Total Infrastructure Management System (dTIMS), the state’s pavement management system. The dTIMS software uses dozens of pavement deterioration models to predict pavement condition using historical pavement performance data and are separated based on the type of underlying structure and the type of paving surface treatment. VTrans’ pavement deterioration models were originally developed in 2004 based on historical pavement performance at the time. Since then, VTrans has implemented the use of bonded wearing course paving treatments but does not currently have deterioration models to project conditions for bonded wearing courses.
