Assessing the Impact of Literature-Based Trip Generation Rates on Truck Activity Modeling: Insights from Chittenden County, Vermont

Brief Project Description:

This study examines the critical role of truck trip generation modeling in metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) across the United States. Large MPOs adopt varying methodologies for deriving trip generation rates, including “literature-based” rates. Understanding the impact of utilizing trip generation rates from literature and different study regions on truck activity and its applications is crucial. Our study applies three different trip-generation models to Chittenden County, Vermont. We evaluate the impact of literature rates on trip production for this study area including trip volume, driving economic activity, and spatial distribution.
