The Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with Frank W. Whitcomb Construction Corporation (FWW) is resurfacing of VT Route 2A from the intersection of VT Route 2A/Lincoln Street and North Street, Essex to the intersection of US Route 7 in Colchester, including SNR 127 between the intersection of VT Route 2A and US Route 7. This project also includes the resurfacing of VT 289 from the intersection of VT 117 to the intersection of VT Route 2A, including VT Route 2A between the on/off ramps of VT 289. The completion date for this work is November 2022.
The posted speed limit will be strictly enforced as the safety of the workers along with the motorists is of the utmost importance. We ask motorists to use extreme caution while traveling through the zone.

This week: Permanent pavement markings on the north end of VT Route 2A in Colchester Village to include lettering and crosswalks was completed as well as final paving on the east end of Vt-289 and continued pavement markings near the exit ramps on VT-289.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, June 19, 2023:
Monday through Friday - 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:
- Weather permitting, continue paving the final "wearing course" on the east end of VT-289.
- Once paving is complete, installation of rumble strips for the centerline and the shoulders will be completed.
- Continue pavement markings on VT Route 2A in Colchester to include lettering, crosswalks and stop bars.

This week: Shoulder clean up (berm removal) and permanent pavement markings on the ramps including crosswalks and lettering was completed this week on the east end of VT-289. Paving was delayed due to the weather.

The installation of pavement markings on VT-289 is now complete as is the paving driveway and side road aprons on VT Route 2A.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, November 28, 2022:
Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:
- On VT Route 2A: Weather permitting, completion of pavement markings and general project clean up work in anticipation of winter shut down. Motorists will encounter a lane closure where the markings are being placed with minimal traffic interruptions.
- On VT-289: General project clean up work in anticipation of winter shut down.
Rumble strips were installed on the VT-289 shoulders along with the completion of mainline pavement markings. Paving driveway and side road aprons on VT Route 2A continued along with the continued of pavement markings.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, November 21, 2022:
Monday and Tuesday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday 8:00 am to noon:
- On VT Route 2A: Weather permitting, continue installation of pavement markings and placement of aggregate shoulder material.
- On VT-289: Weather permitting, continue installation of crosswalks and stop bars on ramps.
Thursday and Friday - No work due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
The centerline rumble strip was installed on VT-289 along with pavement markings. Began paving driveway and side road aprons on VT Route 2A along with installation of pavement markings.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, November 14, 2022:
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on VT-289:
- Weather permitting, continue installation of pavement markings.
- Installation of shoulder rumble strips.
- Placement of aggregate shoulder material along the sides of the road.
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on VT Route 2A:
- Weather permitting, continue paving of driveway and side road aprons.
- Weather permitting, continue installation of pavement markings
- Continue placement of aggregate shoulder material along the sides of the road.
Paving on VT-289 is complete for this construction season.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, November 7, 2022:
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on VT-289:
- Weather permitting, installation of line striping throughout the newly paved roadway. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect lane shifts.
- Bridge joint work on the two bridges on the ramps at the west end of VT-289.
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on VT Route 2A:
- Weather permitting, paving of driveway and side road aprons. Motorists will encounter delays as traffic control will be present allowing for one lane of alternating traffic.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, October 31, 2022:
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
- Weather permitting, continue paving the final lift of asphalt (wearing course) on VT-289.
Note: There is no nighttime work scheduled at this time.
PROJECT UPDATE: Final paving on VT-289 has begun.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, October 24, 2022:
Monday through Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
- Weather permitting, continue paving the final lift of asphalt (wearing course) on VT-289. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect lane shifts.
Sunday through Thursday - 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.:
- Weather permitting, paving driveway and side road tie-ins throughout the project on VT Route 2A. Motorists can expect lane closure with traffic control allowing for one lane of alternating travel.
PROJECT UPDATE: Paving on VT Route 2A and all the Exit ramps on VT-289 is complete. The final tie-ins of abutting side roads and driveways on VT Route 2A will be completed in the upcoming weeks, along with line striping. These final operations are weather dependent, but will be completed before winter.

PROJECT UPDATE: Activities were limited this week due to the heavy rainfall. Berm removal continued on VT-289 along with paving of the wearing course on VT-289 at the Essex Way and Route 2A ramps.
The following is a anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Sunday, September 26, 2022:
Sunday through Thursday - 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.:
- Begin to raise and rehabilitate structures on VT-289 in anticipation of final paving.
- Weather permitting, paving the final lift of asphalt (wearing course) on VT Route 2A.
PROJECT UPDATE: Shoulder cleanup/Berm removal on VT-289 work this week.
The wearing course is not yet complete throughout this entire project. Following this final paving, shoulder material will be placed and all driveway and sideroad tie-ins will be paved.
The following is a anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Sunday, September 18, 2022:
Sunday through Thursday - 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.:
- Continue berm removal, shoulder cleanup on VT-289.
- Begin structure adjustments on VT Route 2A and VT-289.
- Ditch work on SNR 127 between the intersection of VT Route 2A and US Route 7.
Motorists can expect minimal delays with traffic control and/or lane shifts within the work areas.
PROJECT UPDATE: Paving the leveling course continued on the milled area of VT-289.

The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Sunday, August 28, 2022:
- Weather permitting, paving leveling course on VT-289. Work will start on the west end at the on/off ramps at the junction of VT Route 2A and proceed easterly.
Two-way traffic with traffic shifts will be maintained on VT-289; Lane reductions on the on/off ramps
PROJECT UPDATE: Guardrail work is now complete. Milling continued on VT-289.

The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, July 4, 2022:
- No work due to the Independence Day holiday.
- Continued berm removal on the roadway shoulders throughout the project area on VT Route 2A.
- Begin repairing slopes behind the guardrails throughout the project area on VT Route 2A.
There will not be any work on this project the week beginning June 26, 2022. Work will resume on July 5, 2022, following the Independence Day Holiday.
The following is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Sunday, June 19, 2022:
- Milling continues to progress northerly to the end of the project limits on VT Route 2A at the intersection of VT Route 2A, US Route 7 and SNR 127.
- Begin guardrail replacement throughout the project limits on VT Route 2A.
- Begin shoulder repair throughout the project limits on VT Route 2A.
