Parameters controlling the rotation of the deck in skewed integral abutment bridges under thermal loading

As featured in the February 22, 2022 Research and Innovation Newsletter: Ongoing research sheds further light on the rotation that skewed integral abutment bridges (IABs) experience under thermal expansion.

Brief Project Description: The objective of this study is to identify the parameters that control the deck movements arising from thermal changes in skewed integral abutment bridges (IAB’s). To accomplish this objective a closed form analytical solution was generated for a skewed rigid plate supported by restraining springs on its boundaries on the skew sides of the plate and subjected to a uniform thermal loading.
