AOT Road Construction Report – Week of 6/2/25 

This weekly report is a list of planned construction activities that will affect traffic on state highways and interstates throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it. 

Interstates: 

I-89 Colchester Improvements are underway at the Exit 17 interchange. Monday through Friday, I-89 will be reduced to a single lane in both directions near Exit 17 during off-peak hours from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on I-89 North and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on I-89 South. Travel lanes on U.S. 2 will shift south between Jasper Mine Road and U.S. 7, with the potential for lane closures with flaggers controlling alternating one-way traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-89 Montpelier-Waterbury – Motorists can expect southbound lane closures from mile marker 64.2 to 52.6 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I-89 Royalton – Construction continues Monday through Friday on the I-89 bridges near Exit 3. Traffic is reduced to a single lane. Southbound traffic will use the travel lane, while northbound traffic crosses the median and returns north past the bridges. The Exit 3 North off-ramp uses a crossover to the new ramp. Speed limits are 55 mph in work zones and 25 mph on the Exit 3 off-ramp. The speed limit on VT 107 has been reduced to 30 mph and has a 14’ height restriction under the bridges.   

I-89 Swanton-Highgate – Temporary lane closures will be in place for a paving project on I-89 North beginning at Exit 20 and ending at Exit 22. Lane closures will also be in place in both directions on I-89 between the Carter Hill Road overpass and Exit 21 for work on stormwater improvements in the median. A temporary speed limit reduction to 55 mph will be in place through the work zones during working hours. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.

I-91 Fairlee – A crossover remains active at Exit 15 on I-91 South. Beginning approximately a quarter mile in advance of the work zone, traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions and being diverted onto I-91 North around a bridge deck replacement project. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in place.

State Highways: 

Barre Town Ditching will continue on U.S. 302 from Barre Town to Orange. Guardrail work will begin on Monday. Motorcyclists should use caution on milled surfaces. There will be multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Expect delays. Temporary line striping will be applied daily following paving.

Bennington A roundabout project will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on VT 67A at its intersections with Silk Road/Matteson Road and College Drive from Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Brattleboro-Hinsdale – Motorists on VT/NH 119 will encounter flaggers and one-way alternating traffic patterns just east of the new bridge over the CT River in New Hampshire.

Cambridge Johnson – Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., flaggers will guide alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 between Hillcrest Drive in Johnson and the VT 15/ VT 108 roundabout in Cambridge.

Chelsea-Washington – From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., paving work will continue starting on Richardson Road in Washington and proceeding south. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts and minimal delays on VT 110 as the contractor will have alternating one-way traffic patterns set up for paving operations.

Elmore – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 12, Camp Road, and Boat Launch Road. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.

Enosburg Falls – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., VT 105 will be reduced to one lane with flaggers near the intersections of VT 105 and Water Tower Road, and VT 105 and Pleasant Street for sidewalk concrete placement and topsoil placement.   

Fairfax – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 128 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Fairfax to Essex. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.   

Fairlee – Traffic on Lake Morey Road at Exit 15 will be reduced to one-way alternating patterns controlled by flaggers while crews work on the I-91 bridge overhead. Motorists should expect shifting traffic patterns in this area.

Grafton – Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., flaggers will guide alternating one-way traffic on VT 121 near Fisher Hill Road. Motorcyclists and cyclists should expect milled roadway surfaces.

Hartford – Motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts on either side of Old Bridge #7 on Maple Street/VT 14 and Mill Road and the VA Cutoff Road.

Hinesburg-South Burlington – The VT 116 resurfacing project continues. Traffic control will be present, allowing for only one-lane of alternating travel Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.    

Ludlow Night work is scheduled on VT 103 from the Elm Street bridge to the southern limits of the project. From Monday at 8 p.m. to Friday at 6 a.m., single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place. Motorcycles should watch for grooved and uneven surfaces.

Marshfield-Danville – From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., motorists should anticipate minor delays and alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 2 near the Marshfield Dam in Marshfield. Flaggers and Uniformed Traffic Officers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.

Orange Ditching will continue on U.S. 302 from Barre Town into Orange. Motorcyclists should use caution on milled surfaces. There will be multiple single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. Expect delays. Temporary line stripping will be applied daily following paving.

Pittsford – Motorists are traveling over the temporary bridge. Oxbow Road remains closed to through traffic. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. traffic control may be present on U.S. 7 to allow for construction vehicles in and out of the work area.  

Quechee Gorge Bridge – The eastbound lane closure and one-way alternating traffic controlled by a traffic signal will continue until mid-season when the closure switches sides to the westbound lane. The trail at the bridge underpass is closed through fall 2025. The adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.         

Readsboro – On VT 100 over Deerfield River, crews will install pile foundations for the temporary bridge abutment across from Phelps Lane and begin installing sheet piling for the piers on the west side of the river. The parking area adjacent to the gazebo is closed for material storage.  

Richmond – Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., U.S. 2 will have traffic control present allowing for alternate one-way traffic with minimal traffic interruptions.

Rutland – A Class I highway resurfacing project will require single-lane closures or alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on U.S. 7 between Cold River Road and Lincoln Ave, U.S. BUS 4 between Ripley Road and U.S. 7, and U.S. 4 between U.S. 7 and Gleason Road from Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Intermittent width reductions will occur on side streets along U.S. BUS 4 between Ripley Road and Merchants Row for paving.

Searsburg - On VT 9 approximately 1.1 miles west of the intersection with VT 8, workers are replacing a culvert with a bridge. A temporary roadway with a maximum lane width of 12.5 feet (total 25 feet maximum between concrete barriers) is in place. Traffic speeds are reduced to 30 mph through the work zone. Traffic enforcement will be present at times. Flaggers will be present on Tuesday and Wednesday. Delays are expected.

Sheldon – Motorists should anticipate alternating one-way traffic on VT 105 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sheldon to Enosburg. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zones. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise caution due to the grooved pavement surface.      

Wallingford – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on VT 103 at the railroad bridge over VT 103 while bridge work is being done. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone.  

Williston – A roadway resurfacing and widening project will require single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic on Industrial Avenue, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the closure of the VT 2A southbound right-turn-only lane at Industrial Ave from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect significant traffic delays on weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and plan extra travel time or consider alternate routes.

Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on the temporary bridge on VT 12 over the North Branch of the Winooski River. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area.

Worcester – From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on Bridge #87 on VT 12 over Hardwood Brook. Temporary traffic signals will control traffic through the work zone during non-working hours. Flaggers may also be present to assist motorists through the area during working hours.
