The Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with Engineers Construction Inc. (ECI) is replacing the deteriorating 24" corrugated metal culvert with a 42" culvert between Helena Drive and the Blair Park Road/Zypher Road intersection in Williston, Vermont.image of the existing culvert

Due to the volume of traffic within this area, this project is using accelerated construction for one or two days during nighttime hours (9:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.) on a Friday and/or Saturday to replace the drainage structure. There will be some daytime activities as well, but with minimal impact to the traveling public. There will be a designated detour along Interstate 89 and VT Route 15.

The anticipated completion is July 2022.

Monday:
  • No work due to the Independence Day holiday.
Tuesday through Friday - Daytime:
  • General clean up work within the construction area.

The new 42" culvert was installed and backfilled along with the first lift of pavement.
The following is the anticipated daytime work schedule for the week beginning tomorrow, June 27, 2022:
Monday through Friday - Daytime:
  • Reconstruction of the stream bed at both the inlet and outlet ends of the culvert.
  • Replacement of the disrupted concrete sidewalk and curb.
Wednesday and Thursday - 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.:
  • One-way alternating traffic with traffic control present to allow for paving and line striping the constructed area.

Trench boxes were removed and the new headwalls were backfilled in preparation of placing the new culvert.

The following is the anticipated daytime work schedule for the week beginning tomorrow, June 17, 2022:
FRIDAY NIGHT JUNE 17, 2022 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.:
  • Excavation of VT Route 2A to place the new culvert; Backfill and pave the area traffic can expect the following impact:
  • 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way.
  • 9:00 p.m. to approximately 8:00 a.m. Route 2A will be closed between Helena Drive and Zephyr Road/Paul Street intersection, and the detour will be in effect.

Monday through Thursday - Daytime:

  • Minimal activity in preparation for final work on Friday, June 24, 2022 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY NIGHT JUNE 24, 2022 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.: DETOUR EXPECTED.

DETOUR PLAN

Work on VT Route 2A, between Helena Drive and Zephyr Road/Paul Street Intersection, will cause traffic to be detoured beginning at 9:00 p.m. The signed detour is as follows:
  • Motorists seeking to travel north on VT Route 2A will detour at "Taft Corners to U.S. Route 2 east to VT Route 117 (River Road) north to "Five Corners" then back onto VT Route 2A.
  • Motorists seeking to travel south on VT Route 2A will be detoured to "Five Corners" south onto VT Route 117 (River Road) to U.S. Route 2 west and back onto VT Route 2A at "Taft Corners".

The following is the anticipated daytime work schedule for the week beginning Monday, June 13, 2022:
Monday through Thursday - Daytime:
  • Removal of trench boxes and begin backfilling of the headwalls.
Friday Night: Installation of the new 42" culvert between Helena Drive and Zephyr Road/Paul Street intersection with traffic impacts as follows:
  • 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way.
  • 9:00 p.m. to approximately 8:00 a.m. Route 2A will be closed between Helena Drive and Zephyr Road/Paul Street intersection, and the detour will be in effect.
