Testing UVC Lighting Technology to Improve Rural Transit Systems

As featured in the August 23, 2021 Research and Innovation Newsletter: Can UV-C light intervention stop the spread of viruses on Vermont's public transit vehicles?

Brief Project Description: Vermont transit providers are seeking solutions to cost-effectively and efficiently sanitize public transit vehicles to combat the spread of surface and airborne viruses. UVC lighting shows promise as a measure to kill viruses but is largely unproven in real-world transit operations. This project will test the efficacy of UVC lighting products to stop the spread of virus like COVID-19 compared to current cleaning protocols. If effective, results will inform statewide procurement of the technology.
