The following procedures should be used when transferring Estimator files from Consultants to VTrans;
Export the estimate to XML format
With the estimate file open click on the "File" drop down menu and select the "Export..." command.
A pop-up box will then appear to prompt the user to select the file type to export the file as and the location to store the file.
There is NO need to change the file type because the default is the XML format which is the desired format.
Attach the XML file to an e-mail and send it to the VTrans project manager responsible for the project
Save the XML file received from the Consultant to the appropriate project folder where estimate files are typically stored.
Login into the Estimator application with the appropriate catalog units and import the .XML file.
With Estimator open click on the "File" drop down menu and select the "Import..." command.
A pop-up box will then appear to prompt the user to select the file to import. Navigate to the location where the .XML file was saved and open that file.
Once opened the file should then be saved as a ".EST" file to the appropriate project folder where estimate files are typically stored using the naming convention of "PPMS#.est" (PPMS# here on referred to as the PIN). If this naming convention does not show as the default file name when a save is attempted this indicates that the "Estimate ID:" field on page 1 of the project header information is incorrect and needs to have the PIN entered. Please note this may be common with consultant estimates considering the PIN is typically not provided for their use.
The project manager is now responsible for checking and approving the estimate for structure and unit price accuracy.
