The mission of the Agency of Transportation's Emergency Management is to reduce the loss of life and property and protect our institutions from all hazards by leading and supporting the Agency in a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. AOT’s Emergency Management works closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Highway Administration for federal grants that support post-disaster clean-up, and recovery.

FEMA – Public Assistance 

The FEMA (PA) Program provides federal disaster assistance to state and local government organization for debris removal, emergency protective measures and the permanent restoration of replacement of public facilities that are owned and operated by an eligible applicant. Assistance may also be provided to certain private, non-profit organizations that provide services of a governmental nature.

FHWA – Emergency Recovery 

A program from the Highway Trust Fund for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands which have suffered serious damage as a result of (1) natural disasters or (2) catastrophic failures from an external cause. This program, commonly referred to as the emergency relief or ER program, supplements the commitment of resources by States, their political subdivisions, or other Federal agencies to help pay for unusually heavy expenses resulting from extraordinary conditions.
