Brief Project Description: VTrans has established significant phosphorus (P) reduction targets to meet the Lake Champlain P TMDL implementation plan requirements. As of October 1, 2021, VTrans has implemented Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce P by 93.3 kg/yr. With a compliance target of 1605 kg/yr by 2036, VTrans is currently only at 5.8% of their target. This project will examine the potential to substantially enhance P removal in select stormwater treatment practices using Drinking Water Treatment Residuals (DWTRs), which are a by-product of drinking water processing.
