Regional Planning Coordination & Participation
To ensure the state’s rural voices are heard and local elected and appointed officials are able to fully participate in statewide transportation planning and programming, the Agency engages in local and regional planning via a consultative and cooperative planning and public outreach process with Regional Planning Commissions throughout Vermont.
Environmental Policy
Vehicle electrification, climate change mitigation and resilience activities, and wildlife corridor research and implementation are key areas of focus of the Agency's Environmental Policy section.
Cross-Border Policy & Project Coordination
The Vermont Agency of Transportation is the lead agency in the coordination of a multi-jurisdictional group of federal, state, and provincial agencies collectively known as the Champlain Region Border Projects (CRBP) Stakeholder Group. The group works to ensure safe, secure, efficient, and functional land Ports of Entry to facilitate the flow of cross-border trade, travel, and commerce along the U.S.-Canadian Border. The Agency is also an essential stakeholder in the Eastern Border Transportation Coalition (EBTC) which works as a coalition to improve the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across the 75 land border Ports of Entry between the United States and Canada.
State Transportation Improvement Program
The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is a staged, multi-year, statewide, intermodal program of transportation projects funded by the Federal Highway Administration or the Federal Transit Administration.
